Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection – we are not told how often or for how long at a time, but the gospel accounts make plain that it was not continuous. After he ascended to heaven, the disciples were standing there watching and waiting, but they were reminded that Jesus had promised his presence through the Holy Spirit’s presence and agency within them.
As with the first disciples, we have a clear expectation that Jesus will return one day in power and glory. But sometimes, while waiting we can miss what He has said about his presence with us here and now, and his activity and mission in the world here and now.
