“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season; Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.”
2 Timothy 4:2 (NKJV)
Paul tells Timothy that he must always be ready, standing at his “post”, like a soldier on guard duty, commission with a purpose – that of proclaiming the good news about Jesus Christ.
“In season” – when things are going well, when things seem easy and flowing, timely.
“Out of season” – when things are not making sense, not popular with those around, not favourable or are untimely.
So Paul was saying to Timothy, “Stay the course. Stay at your post. Stick with the assignment you’ve been given – to declare God’s truth as you teach and train others.”
God gives all His people assignments – we all have a purpose and a commission from Him. Have you asked Him what yours are?
