In John 15, Jesus speaks about himself as “the true vine”. The image of God’s people represented as a vine or a vineyard was very familiar to the Jewish people, as it occurs numerous times in the Old Testament prophets. Sadly, Israel had failed to produce any good “fruit” for the Lord. But now Jesus comes as re-orients the image around himself. He is the True Vine, and our job is to be branches that stay connected to Him, the true source of life and nourishment. He is firmly and deeply rooted in the life of God and from that place, our fruitfulness flows. Our job is simply to stay connected – just BE A BRANCH!
