Before David became king of Judah and Israel, he had many years of developing in the wilderness while tending the sheep of his father. He became a skilled warrior – able to fight and win against wild lions and bears! His skill in battle was rooted in his knowledge of God, and was the key to his confidence when facing the giant Goliath. One thing David never overcame though was himself – his own weakness of character – first falling into sexual sin and followed by a murderous cover-up, severely damaging his reputation, his family and the kingdom in the process.
We however have an ally in the Holy Spirit – given to us in new hearts to help us overcome the desires of the flesh, so that we can walk through life in total victory!
