There are many "heroes of the faith" that are well known for the part they played in the Bible story and the history of God's people. But there are no "sidekicks" in God's kingdom.

"Let us also go, that we may die with him,” says Thomas with a dark irony. Although his comment leads into a profound passage about resurrection, it is also prophetic of what it really means to follow Jesus.

Loving people in Jesus name does not mean compromising the gospel message - syncretism (blending of different religions) has no place in the church, but the gospel declares that Jesus Christ is the only way to God. The gospel requires that we take a risk in being able to love people but speak the true gospel of salvation through Jesus, not adding anything to the simple message of trusting in Jesus Christ.
